BC heads out to California in just three days.

That means there was truly no time to dwell on what could have been out in East Lansing. BC was locked in preparing for Stanford on Saturday night during Tuesday’s practice.

As always, here’s what stood out:

Early observations

Three, maybe four NFL scouts on hand. Definitely saw a Commanders colored pullover, we saw two or three others in red, which, by process of elimination says they could have represented Arizona, Kansas City, San Francisco I believe.

More importantly, tackling work on both fields for mostly linebackers and defensive backs during indy periods. O’Brien acknowledged it being a point of emphasis (press conference posted on the board) and it clearly was.

Team period

You could clearly tell Dylan Lonergan’s confidence was notched up a bit after what he did against Michigan State. He had a couple completions to Jeremiah Franklin and Reed Harris during a quick full team period. The throw to Harris was a seed.

James had an early completion to Ty Lockwood, but Isaiah Farris jumped a route for a pick on his final snap of the series.

Also worth noting how energetic Harris was at times on Tuesday. At one point, he caught a ball during a period (I forget exactly which one, probably early WR-QB time), sprinted downfield and somersaulted into the end zone. He was chatting teammates up on the sidelines and dancing at times. He brought the right type of energy for the first game week practice after such a tough loss. More importantly, he caught everything thrown his way.

Scout team

The QBs both had nice throws in various scout team periods throughout the morning. Lonergan had a couple deep dimes early to VJ Wilkins and Jaedn Skeete. James hit Jeremiah Franklin with a bullet up the seam.

Lonergan was sharp short and intermediate with completions later to Lewis Bond, Skeete and Luke McLaughlin. James closed out the day on a high note with a deep TD to Wilkins who used his speed to make sure he got to it, snatching it right at the goal line.

The Eagles also did a little 7-on-7 but the media contingent was talking UMass debacle and Patriots for a bit, so I didn’t chart it.

Special teams

Plenty of kickoff and punt work. Didn’t get to see one of the MVPs of Saturday night Luca Lombardo in action, but another virtual tip of the hat to him and the performance against Michigan State.

Back to work Wednesday

Two more practices left this week. Eagles are back at it around 9:30 on Wednesday morning.
