College Basketball Viewing Guide: Big Ten, Mid Major Battles Headline Wednesday
Make sure to check out The Field of 68 After Dark tonight.
7 pm: Minnesota at No. 6 Purdue, BTN
- BetMGM Line: Purdue -20.5
- BetMGM Total: 142.5
- KenPom: Purdue 79, Minnesota 61
The Gophers picked up a huge first ranked win under Niko Medved against Indiana last Wednesday, and they’ve now had a week to prepare for Purdue. But going into Mackey Arena against a pissed off Boilermaker team that just took a beating won’t be easy. Minnesota’s top-30 in offensive rebounding percentage defense, so if they keep Purdue’s elite frontcourt at bay on the boards, it could have a chance.
7 pm: New Mexico @ VCU, ESPN+
- BetMGM Line: VCU -9.5
- BetMGM Total: 156.5
- KenPom: VCU 80, New Mexico 71
First-year head coaches Eric Olen vs. Phil Martelli Jr. Deyton Albury vs. VCU’s elite backcourt. Tomislav Buljan vs. Lazar Djokovic. NCAA Tournament at-large bid implications on the line. This game has a bit of everything and may be the best mid-major non-conference game of the season.
7:00 p.m.: Liberty at NC State, ACC Network
- BetMGM Line: NC State -12.5
- BetMGM Total: 152.5
- KenPom: NC State 84, Liberty 74
NC State has lost three out of its last five games and beat No. 212 ranked UNC Asheville by just 12 points this past Saturday to drop even further down Kenpom. Will Wade’s team needs a response, and Liberty (6-2) is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country. The Wolfpack can’t let the Flames get hot early, no pun intended, in what should be a track meet from tipoff.
9 p.m.: Wisconsin at No. 23 Nebraska, BTN
- BetMGM Line: Nebraska -1.5
- BetMGM Total: 158.5
- KenPom: Nebraska 80, Wisconsin 79
The Cornhuskers have the nation’s longest active winning streak (13), one of the best bigs in the country in Rienk Mast, and a bunch of other pieces that just fit. Wisconsin has looked the part lately after its loss to TCU, and John Blackwell has really hit his stride. This will likely be another up-and-down, high-scoring affair to end the night, and the lines are predicting some potential late-game drama.
