Indiana State coach Matthew Graves to undergo triple bypass surgery, take leave of absence

Indiana State head coach Matthew Graves will be taking a leave of absence, effective immediately, due to a medical procedure, the school announced.
Recently, Graves visited Union Hospital for an evaluation after he experienced tightness in his chest. The doctors determined he needed triple bypass surgery after their examination. The surgery will take place on Monday, Oct. 20.
In Graves’ absence, associate head coach Mark Slessinger will be the acting head coach.
“I’m truly grateful for the incredible doctors at Union Health for helping my family and me through this process,” Graves said. “I look forward to rejoining the program in the near future. With Coach Slessinger’s experience as a former head coach, I have complete confidence in his leadership during my absence. Can’t wait to see everyone back in the Hulman Center, Go Sycamores!”
Indiana State will release updates when they become available. The Sycamores tipoff the season on Nov. 3 at Charlotte.
