Kansas star freshman Darryn Peterson won't play during Feast Week
Kansas star freshman guard Darryn Peterson will not play in Las Vegas during the Players Era Festival, head coach Bill Self told reporters on Friday.
Peterson hasn’t played since Kansas’ road loss to North Carolina on Nov. 7. He’s still recovering from a hamstring strain.
“We’re not going to have Darryn in Vegas,” Self said. “Although, we have reevaluated and he’s right there close. But he hasn’t quite done enough to put him in position to go out and play multiple games in a short span like that. So we’re hopeful he’s running and cutting and doing all those things while we’re in Vegas, but not to the point where he’s probably ready to play.”
Peterson first missed time from the injury in the Louisville exhibition game, playing limited second half minutes. Peterson sat out the following exhibition game vs. Fort Hays State. On opening night, Peterson returned to the floor vs. Green Bay, but the guard was once again limited in the second half.
Peterson played his first full regular season game against North Carolina, scoring 23 points and dishing out three dimes in 28 minutes, but he hasn’t played since. The guard is averaging 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 60% from the floor in the two games he’s recorded minutes.
Kansas plays Notre Dame on Monday and Syracuse on Tuesday, with both games tipping at 3:30 ET. The third game is TBD. After the Players Era Festival, Kansas is set to host UConn on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Having Peterson back for that game would be massive for Kansas.
