SMU's Enfield provides update on heralded frosh

SMU highly touted freshman Jaden Toombs will miss the first couple of weeks of the season due to a wrist injury, coach Andy Enfield told The Field of 68.
“He’s out a couple weeks and will be evaluated each week,” Enfield said. “We hope to get him back soon.”
The 6-10, 230-pound Texas native was ranked as a consensus Top 50 player coming out of high school at Dynamic Prep.
Enfield told Field of 68 at media day earlier this month that he expects Toombs to make an immediate impact for the Mustangs this season.
“He’s got a college-ready body, great hands and feet for a big guy and a high basketball IQ and great decision-making,” Enfield said. “We think he can help us right away.”
Enfield compared him to Onyeka Okongwu, who Enfield coached for a season at USC before he was selected sixth overall by the Atlanta Hawks. Okongwu averaged 16.2 points and 8.6 boards in his lone season in college.
“Jaden isn’t as explosive, but they both finish so well in the paint with both hands,” Enfield said.
Enfield enters his second season at SMU after winning 24 games last season and finishing with a 13-7 record in ACC play. The Mustangs return all-league point guard Boopie Miller, B.J. Edwards and big man Samet Yigitoglu – and add a heralded freshman class that’s headlined by Toombs.
