Tarleton State reinstates head coach Billy Gillispie

Tarleton State head coach Billy Gillispie has been reinstated, the school announced on Monday.
Gillispie was put on administrative leave on Friday, Oct. 3, while the school conducted an internal investigation due to a complaint. That investigation has concluded, and Gillispie will be back on the sidelines.
“We’re thankful to the Texas A&M System for working expeditiously in addressing this anonymous complaint,” said Tarleton State Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Steve Uryasz. “The welfare of our student-athletes is of the utmost importance to Tarleton State University and the Texas A&M System. We look forward to the start of the Texan Men’s Basketball season.”
Gillispie, 65, has a checkered past that includes several instances of mistreatment of players – at Kentucky, Texas Tech and even Ranger Junior College. He was hired by Tarleton State in 2020 with the support of the Board of Directors and has compiled a 78-74 record in five seasons.
