Army Black Knights pull down pledge from 2026 TE Mason Mixon

In Army’s offense under Head Coach Jeff Monken and Offense Coordinator Cody Worley, the tight end role has been primarily used as an extension of the interior offensive line in the run dominated Black Knights’ “O”.
However, there is a sincere belief that with a truly effective passer at QB and an athletic tight end, that Worley might adopt or at least lean towards passing the ball more than has been done in the past.
Well, perhaps recently committed tight end Mason Mixon is that guy.
The 6-foot-4, 245 pounder out of Randle High School in Richmond, Texas not only held an offer from Army, but also Navy, Air Force, Texas State, Louisiana, New Mexico, McNeese, Sacramento State, Texas Southern, and Prairie View.
Initial West Point Visit
It was back in February that the tight end took his initial visit to West Point, which was followed by his official visit in September.
COACHES CONNECTION – COMMITMENT – DECIDING FACTOR
So, let’s get the 411 on Mixon’s pledge to the Black Knights’ coaching staff.
“I called Coach Monken on Monday night and we talked about how my season has been going and how my family is doing,” explained Mison. “Then I told him that I wanted to be a Black Knight and he was really excited. I then called Coach (Seth) Hestness, my position coach, and he was very excited. A big part that I committed was my relationship with Coach (Cheston) Blacksher, since day one he has been there for me and always reaching out and checking up on me. So I’m excited to play under some great coaches and leaders.”
“I think my deciding factor to going to West Point is seeing the person I will become after I graduate. There are so many great leaders on the football staff that are truly great men. Coach Blackshear was the first coach I came in contact with when he visited my school back in January and since then he’s always checked up with me and kept it 100.”
Mixon’s 2025 Season
According to Mixon, he is excited with how his 2025 has started out, as he and his teammates are currently defeated at 7-0 and the defending champs in Texas 5A D2.
He has 12 receptions for 200 yards and 1 TD, whereby he has only played in the 2nd half in 3 games because they have been up by the designated point cut off at halftime.
