On Senior Day, Army Falls To Tulsa, 26-25 In Season’s Final Home Game
Army-Tulsa Game Summary
Today’s game against Tulsa carried major significance for the Army Black Knights. Not only was it Senior Day—the final home appearance for the outgoing class—but a win would also secure bowl eligibility.
But as the old saying goes, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.” And for Head Coach Jeff Monken and his Black Knights, Tulsa opened the game with the same force they would finish with.
The Golden Hurricane struck first, marching down the field behind sharp quarterback play from Baylor Hayes and powerful running by Dominic Richardson. Richardson capped the drive with a 2nd-and-goal touchdown to give Tulsa an early 7–0 lead.
Army, however, wasted no time responding. On the Black Knights’ first play from scrimmage, Cale Hellums found Noah Short for 49 yards, and moments later, Hellums broke free on a 31-yard touchdown run to even the score.
2nd Quarter
Hayes was back at it again as he hit receiver AJay Allen with an impressive 33-yard TD pass and a Tulsa 14-7 lead with 14:01 into the quarter.
Once again, the Black Knights responded, as Hellums made way into the end zone, as Coach Monken opted to go for two points, and Army completed the two point conversation and a 15-14 lead with 5:47 remaining in the 2nd quarter. But Army wasn’t finished just yet, as they got the ball back with 3:01 remaining on the clock and at the Tulsa 31 yard line.
Hat Trick
When it was all said and done, Hellums made his way to the end zone for his third touchdown of the day.
3rd Quarter
Army picked up where it had left off and on their own 33 yard line, Hellums found WR Brady Anderson in the end zone for what appeared to be another 6-points for the Black Knights. However, Anderson was ruled to be out of bounds and Army settled for the 3-point field goal and a 25-14 lead.
Someone Is About To Sing
Tulsa’s resilience, along with Army’s 4th miscues saw the Golden Hurricane team make their comeback and spoil Senior Day for the Black Knights.
Perhaps the most notable error came when Army was on their own 31 yard line with less than 3:30 remaining in the game (25-17) and Hellums goes back to pass.
The Tulsa defender made an incredible one handed interception and five plays later that was capped off by Richardson’s run inside to the Army 8 yard line and before you know it, Army’s lead is now down to 25-23.

On the Black Knights’ next possession, it is three and out. With 1:36 remaining and Tulsa’s ball, the Fat Lady is singing a little louder and she hits the high note as Tulsa kicker Seth Morgan his the game winning 27 yard field goal as Tulsa ends their American Conference losing streak with a 26-25 comeback win over Army.
