Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman revealed the team captains for his football team ahead of the start of the 2025 season on Monday.

Pittman said the captains were voted by their teammates, and they’ll name one more captain by Wednesday at the latest. The captains were sorted by offense, defense and special teams.

Offensive captains

On the offense, quarterback Taylen Green and offensive lineman Fernando Carmona Jr. were named team captains. Both are in their second years at Arkansas. Carmona started every game at left tackle last season but moved inside to left guard in the spring.

Green is back for his second season at the helm of the Arkansas offense and is looking to build on a 2024 campaign in which he threw for 3,154 yards and 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He added another 602 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

Defensive captains

Defensively, the Hogs are rolling with two redshirt seniors as their captains. Linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. and defensive tackle Cam Ball will wear the “C” on their chest when they run out onto the field.

Ball has spent all five of his collegiate seasons in Fayetteville, and is in line for a breakout season. Last year, he logged a career-high 47 tackles, four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the 13 games he appeared and started in.

Sorey is back at Arkansas for a second year after he transferred in from Georgia ahead of last season. He led the team with 99 total tackles, had 9.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He also snagged an interception and had a pass breakup last season as well.

Special teams captains

Pittman said there will be two special teams captains, but the only one who was voted by his teammates so far has been punter Devin Bale. The other will be selected no later than Wednesday.

Bale has collected many preseason awards this offseason, and was named Preseason All-SEC by the league’s media as well as Phil Steele. He was also named to the 2025 Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List.

Last year, Bale logged 41 punts with an average of 45.2 yards per punt. He had 11 downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and had 11 punts of 50+ yards as well.
