The Arkansas basketball team begins the regular season against the Southern Jaguars on Monday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Two exhibition games gave way to two runaway wins for the Hogs, who dismantled Cincinnati at home on Oct. 24 and then overcame a 15-point deficit to beat Memphis 99-75 at the FedEx Forum on Oct. 27.

Now, the real games that matter start. The Hogs will face a gauntlet of a schedule that includes all eight teams from last year’s Elite Eight, as well as some pesky mid-major matchups.

Arkansas has a tough road matchup against Michigan State on Saturday, but Nick Pringle said Friday they’re not overlooking the Jaguars, who finished 20-12 last season and won the SWAC regular season title with a 15-3 mark in conference play.

“We know that they’re a good team,” Pringle said. “They won their conference last year. They have some talented players. So it’s a team that we want to focus 100% on. We want to showcase to our fans what we want to do for this first game and throughout the season.

“We’re taking this just as serious as any other game. I mean, the metrics, just being around college basketball, all this stuff matters. They won their league last year. They’re supposed to win this year. So every one is going to count for us this year.”

It is worth noting that because of a carriage dispute between Disney and YouTube TV, Monday’s game may not be available to some. HawgBeat has linked the game on ESPN’s website below.
