It’s been a tumultuous few weeks for Arkansas football because of a lot of different factors, and one of those has been a flurry of decommitments from recruits in the class of 2026.

Since Sept. 11, Sam Pittman and his coaching staff have lost three prospects from their 2026 class. It got started when four-star offensive tackle Bryce Gilmore reopened his recruitment shortly before his commitment to Texas Tech.

Then, a week later on Sept. 18, offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino lost his quarterback when Jayvon Gilmore (no relation to Bryce) reopened his recruitment. He had recently left his high school football team at Gaffney in South Carolina, and this move was on Arkansas’ part, not Gilmore’s.

The latest defector came on Tuesday evening, when Pflugerville (Texas) three-star tight end Jaivion Martin also backed off his pledge and reopened his recruitment.

Where Arkansas’ 2026 class ranks nationally

Prior to the attrition, Arkansas had 27 commitments and the class was ranked No. 34 nationally according to Rivals. Bryce Gilmore was the highest-rated recruit in the class, so his defection was particularly painful.

Now, Arkansas’ class has 24 commitments and the rank has slid all the way down to No. 41 in the country. That’s also ranked 14th in the SEC, in front of only Missouri and Vanderbilt.

It is worth noting that Arkansas has six more players in the fold than Vanderbilt and 14 more than Missouri. Those two teams have zero combined four-star prospects in the class, while Arkansas has three.
