2027 jumbo athlete/defensive line prospect Charles Nance released an early top five a few weeks ago that included West Virginia, UAB, Troy, Western Kentucky and South Florida, but that might be adjusted sooner rather than later as his recruitment has turned up a notch in the last several days.

The standout from Dooly County High (Ga.) has gathered several Power-4 offers in the last two weeks alone, including one from Kansas, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Florida State and Georgia Tech, to go along with a gameday visit to Georgia last weekend. The 6-3, 280-pound player that is listed as an athlete in the 2027 class by On3 said he’s in no hurry to cut things down again after the recent surge in his recruitment.

“I don’t know when I’m going to start cutting things down to my top teams,” Nance told JOL recently. “I’m just taking my time with it. Right now UAB, Western Kentucky, West Virginia and Coastal Carolina are showing me a lot of love.”

Georgia Tech jumps in the mix

Nance received the offer from Georgia Tech this past Thursday to add to his recent Power-4 offers, and he said it meant a lot because he has his family has a lot of “love” for the Jackets.

Nance also has some familiarity with the program and the facilities as he said he had a positive experience there playing in an all-star game back when he was a freshman in high school.

“Yeah, I’ve been to Georgia tech when I was in ninth grade. I was down for Born 2 Compete All-American Game, and they let us visit,” said Nance. “I had a great time. I love the field. I fell in love with the facilities.”

Nance added that he will be making a return trip to The Flats soon following his recent offer from the Jackets’ staff.

“I plan on getting back on campus October 25th when they play Syracuse,” said Nance.

Where he fits on the field at the next level

Nance has played multiple positions during his prep career with his size and ability, but he said he sees himself eventually putting his hand on the ground in the middle of the defensive line once he gets to college.

“I can see myself at defensive tackle, making big plays on TV,” said Nance. “(I just want to be) a team player.”

Could Georgia Tech be where Nance makes those plays in the future? The Jackets have definitely made an impact on him early for the next recruiting cycle and will have another chance to impress him when he’s there for the gameday visit for the Syracuse game next weekend.
