Georgia Tech debuted at No. 17 in the first College Football Playoff Rankings of 2025 last week, but after a bye and some chaos around them in the Top 25 this past Saturday, the Jackets moved up to No. 16 in the second version of the rankings on Tuesday night.

Head coach Brent Key and his Jackets (8-1, 5-1 ACC) benefitted from some upsets this past weekend, including fellow conference teams Virginia and Louisville each going down on their home fields to allow GT to be the highest-ranked ACC team on Tuesday by the committee.

Other ACC teams in the CFP Top 25 included Pittsburgh at No. 22, Louisville at No. 20, Virginia at No. 19 and Miami at No. 15. With that, the Hurricanes were a part of the projected College Football Playoff bracket Tuesday as well as the No. 11 seed and projected to visit No. 6 seed Texas Tech in the first round.

“Georgia Tech was idle. Obviously, their last game they certainly didn’t play well on either side of the ball when you think about their loss to North Carolina State,” said selection committee chair Mack Rhoades on Tuesday’s CFP Rankings teleconference call. “Georgia Tech, again, we look at all of the metrics. Their schedule strength is hard for them. When you think about just about non-conference signature wins, Miami, certainly with the win against Notre Dame, was a key factor for Miami ahead of Georgia Tech.”

Georgia Tech, which is now ranked No. 12 and No. 14 in the latest Coaches Poll and AP Top 25, respectively, will be back on the field this Saturday when it visits Boston College (1-9, 0-6 ACC) for an ACC road matchup in Chestnut Hill scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and set to be broadcast on ACC Network.
