Georgia Tech now knows its bowl destination as the Jackets are lined up to take on BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Dec. 27th at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
The game is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. from Orlando on Dec. 27 and will be broadcast on ABC.
The news came down Sunday afternoon after the final College Football Playoff Rankings were announced earlier in the day, allowing the rest of the bowl picture to start to clear up.
How each team got here..
Georgia Tech, which landed at No. 22 in the final CFP Rankings on Sunday, is coming off a 9-3 season that started 8-0 before the Brent Key‘s team struggled to a 1-3 finish in November with losses to NC State, Pittsburgh and Georgia. It’s the first time Tech will be making a bowl appearance in three straight seasons since 2012 through 2014 as the Jackets won the Gasparilla Bowl over UCF to end the 2023 season and fell to Vanderbilt in the Birmingham Bowl to wrap up the 2024 campaign.
BYU and head coach Kalani Sitake finished 11-2 with both of their losses coming to Texas Tech, most recently a 29-7 loss to the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday. The Cougars finished No. 12 in the final CFP Rankings.
This will be BYU’s second straight bowl appearance and seventh in the 10 seasons Sitake has been the head coach of the program. BYU won the Alama Bowl last years 36-14 over Colorado.
GT’s history vs. BYU and in this bowl game…
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Georgia Tech and BYU with all of them coming since 2002. The Jackets won that first meeting, but the Cougars have won the last three, most recently defeating Georgia Tech 38-20 on Oct. 12, 2013.
Georgia Tech has competed in this bowl game before as well when it was known by different names. The Jackets last played in it in 2004 when it was the Champs Sports Bowl and defeated Syracuse 51-14. Prior to that Georgia Tech played there in 1997 when it was the Carquest Bowl and defeated West Virginia 35-30.
