Jackets rise in Coaches, AP Poll after bye week

Georgia Tech was off this past week for the second bye of 2025 and got some help around them in the college football landscape with several higher-ranked teams losing on Saturday to allow the Jackets to move back up in both major top 25 polls.
The Jackets (8-1, 5-1 ACC) moved up two spots from No. 14 to No. 12 in the Coaches Poll (tied with BYU) released on Sunday will advancing forward from No. 16 to No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25.
Georgia Tech was aided by a pair of Saturday night ACC road upsets as Wake Forest went into Charlottesville and defeated Virginia while California took down Louisville in overtime. Virginia fell from No. 11 to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and from No. 12 to No. 20 in the AP while Louisville dropped from No. 15 in the Coaches Poll to No. 21 and from No. 14 in the AP to No. 19.
The results of those two games also put Georgia Tech back in control of its own destiny in the race for a berth in the ACC Championship Game as reported here by JOL’s Kelly Quinlan. Wins over Boston College and Pittsburgh the next two weeks would put the Jackets in Charlotte on the first weekend of December battling for the conference crown.
The Jackets have been as high as high as No. 7 in both major polls this season prior to their loss at NC State on Nov. 1, which was the program’s highest in-season ranking since 2009 and highest in all since after the 2014 season and the Orange Bowl victory to conclude that year.
Georgia Tech debuted at No. 17 in the first College Football Playoff Rankings of the season this past week but should move up a few spots there as well when the new rankings are released on Tuesday.
Head coach Brent Key and his Jackets will be back on the field this Saturday when they visit Boston College for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff set to be broadcast on ACC Network.
