Georgia Tech continued its momentum for the 2025 season on Saturday, moving to 5-0, and it continued its momentum on the recruiting trail on Sunday as well as the Jackets picked up their second commitment of the 2027 class.

Athlete Keyon Standifer from Athens Academy went public with his commitment to Georgia Tech to celebrate his birthday on Sept. 28 after silently pledging to the program and Jackets wide receivers coach Trent McKnight on a recent visit to The Flats.

“One of the biggest reasons I am committing to Georgia Tech is that it offers a unique combination of high-level academics and competitive athletes, like Bailey Stockton,” said Standifer. “Another reason I’m committing there is that I’m not too far from home and can always come back to visit my mom or any part of my family.”

The speedy 5-9 playmaker Standifer committed to Tech over other early offers from Georgia State, Miami (Ohio) and West Virginia, while several other schools have shown interest as more offers are likely to come in the next few months. Standifer said Tech has been recruiting him hard recently, including McKnight building a close relationship with him.

“Coach McKnight and I talk almost every day,” said Standifer. “He’s checking up on me and my family, asking how we are doing, stuff like that. We have built a great relationship!”

Standifer joins wide receiver Jordan Christie as the first two members of Tech’s 2027 class after Christie committed back in June. He, along with Christie, was in attendance for a visit a couple weeks back when the Jackets earned a thrilling win over Clemson in front of a loud and energetic home crowd that got him really excited to be a part of the program in the future.

“I’m very excited to be a part of Georgia Tech,” said Standifer. “The atmosphere was great, and the student section didn’t disappoint.”

Standifer is off to an impressive start to his junior season at Athens Academy as he has helped the Spartans to a 5-1 record while racking up 23 catches for 570 yards and seven touchdowns along with 160 yards and two touchdowns on the ground on offense and 16 total tackles (nine solo) with one tackle-for-loss and two interceptions on defense according to MaxPreps.

For Tech fans that might not know much about him yet, Standifer gave a good description of himself as a player.

“If they haven’t seen me play, they should know I’m a baller and can play slot or outside,” said Standifer. “I’m quick on releases, and it’s going to be hard for a defensive back to press me. If they do that, it’s going to be a very long day.”

Now off to a 5-0 start on the field in 2025, Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key and his staff will look to continue to add to its 2026 and 2027 classes in the coming months and will likely be out on the road this next week to see several top targets during the Jackets’ bye.
