Georgia Tech has lost a key piece of its defense as Jackets’ head coach Brent Key announced on Monday at his press conference that starting nickel/safety Jy Gilmore will miss the rest of the season after suffering a leg injury in Saturday’s loss to Pittsburgh.

Gilmore, who had recently returned to the line from an injury midseason, went down in the first half of Saturday’s game vs. Pitt and had to be carted off the field.

Gilmore has played in nine games with eight starts this season for Georgia Tech and has 35 total tackles (21 solo), including 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a half a sack, as well as three pass breakups and three passes defended. He has spent most of the season as the starting nickel but has also spent some time playing safety in recent weeks.

Gilmore transferred to Georgia Tech following the spring after spending the 2024 season at Georgia State and four seasons before that at Tennessee Tech.

Kelvin Hill is likely to see an increase in reps at nickel while freshman Tae Harris also played some snaps there on Saturday vs. Pitt after Gilmore’s injury.

Georgia Tech will close out the regular season Friday vs. rival Georgia at 3:30 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
