Tech adds big piece to defensive class with commitment of talented DL Wilson

The holiday weekend got even better for Georgia Tech’s 2026 recruiting class on Sunday as defensive lineman Freddie Wilson committed to the Jackets over other finalists Miami and Minnesota.
Wilson made the announcement public through his social media as the Spruce Creek (Fla.) standout picked Georgia Tech over more than 16 other offers and after narrowing down his choices to the final three after his official visits wrapped up in June.
Wilson spoke with JOL back in June following his official visit and said his interactions and relationships with Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key and defensive line coach Jess Simpson really stood out to him.
“Honestly, Coach Key is a pretty straight-forward and funny guy. He has a hell of a story to tell about how he became who he was,” said Wilson. “He’s the definition of never giving up even when it’s hard…great guy.
“Coach Simpson is the man! I love Coach Simpson, the knowledge he has and the proof of his abilities to develop you (as a defensive lineman) is written on the wall.”
Wilson is Georgia Tech’s 20th overall commitment in the 2026 class and eighth on the defensive side of the ball. He’s the Jackets’ third addition in the class up front on the defensive line along with edge Chris Carbin and edge/defensive end Alex Willis.
It is the second straight class that Georgia Tech has gotten a player from Spruce Creek following the signing of defensive lineman and former Wilson teammate Derry “Chuck” Norris in the 2025 class.
