Oklahoma State’s loss at Oregon still carries a lot of sting with the fanbase. The bye week probably comes at a good time for Cowboy football, but probably is the worst timing for fans.

Alas, Cowboy football can’t afford to linger on the trip to Oregon and must roll on to prepare to host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane a week from Friday in a contest televised on ESPN.

We checked in with sources to see how things have been going this week.

Practices this week have been heavily focused on cleaning things up in all three phases. The film of the Oregon had to be hard to watch, but entirely necessary to identify the most important things to address in practices early in the bye week. The game plan for Tulsa has been worked on by the coordinators and staff, with just a bit of installation in practice this week.

Cowboy players will have both Friday and Saturday off and then roll into a typical game-week practice plan on Sunday.

The player’s days off coincide with the coaching staff hitting the recruiting trail hard. They have had staff on the road all week, but now on-field coaches are freed up to hit the road recruiting.

Receivers coach Theron Aych is headed to north Texas, while co-offensive line coach Andrew Mitchell is hitting Colorado. Cornerbacks coach Jules Monitar rounds out the list of coaches where we have an idea where they are headed, with a trip to the Houston area.

Kevin Johns (QB’s), D.J. Tialavea (TE’s) and Cory Patterson (RB’s) are the other offensive coaches hitting the road tonight. Kap Dede (LB’s), Ryan Osborn (DL) will represent the on-field staff on road for the defense.

On the visits front, the Cowboys will host unofficials for the TU game, though Friday nights can be a tough draw for prospects given many are playing that night. We don’t expect official visits to resume until October.
