Cowgirl softball adds top in-stater

Oklahoma State softball and head coach Kenny Gajewski announced the signing of dominant Owasso pitcher Preslee Downing on Monday.
Downing had previously signed with Stephen F. Austin, but was released from that. Hearing that news, Gajewski knew what came next.
“After Preslee de-committed from her previous school, she was someone that we had real interest in,” Gajewski said. “We love her bulldog mentality and the way she attacks the strike zone. We’re looking forward to her making an impact in her first year.”
Downing is a three-time district Pitcher of the Year in Oklahoma’s largest class (6A) while dealing for the Rams. This past season, she was named Player of the Year by the Tulsa World after carrying Owasso to a 6A state title. She had a 24-3 record in the circle with a 1.10 ERA and 261 strikeouts in 162.1 innings pitched.
“Being a Cowgirl means everything to me,” Downing said. “I’ve played softball my whole life dreaming of a moment like this; competing for a major program, representing my home state, and wearing a jersey that actually means something to the people around me.”
“It’s more than just softball now. It’s pride, loyalty, and a chance to be part of something bigger than myself. I don’t take that lightly, and I’m ready to give everything I’ve got.”
