Availability Report: OU receiver Keontez Lewis questionable to play against Texas

NORMAN — The first SEC Availability report for the Red River Rivalry this weekend was released on Wednesday.
OU quarterback John Mateer has been officially released as “questionable.” OU receiver Keontez Lewis, notably, is also listed as questionable to play this weekend.
The Sooners have a slew of players who have been ruled out — tight end Kade McIntyre and offensive linemen Troy Everett, Jacob Sexton and Jake Taylor. Offensive lineman Logan Howland is listed as “doubtful.”
According to the SEC Availability Report, players listed as questionable as “uncertain to play due to injury or condition.” Players listed as doubtful are “unlikely to play due to significant concerns.” Players who are probable are “likely to play, barring any setbacks.”
Lewis’ availability has certainly been in question following the Sooners’ 44-0 win over Kent State last weekend. Lewis collided with the brick wall near the endzone early in the first quarter and was down for several minutes before he was placed on a stretcher and escorted out in a medical cart.
Fortunately for the Sooners, Lewis appeared to avoid a significant injury. He was back at the OU facility on Sunday, and the availability report suggests he could play this weekend.
“Thank goodness that he’s all right,” OU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said Tuesday, “and whenever he’s ready to play, he’ll be ready to play. I don’t know when that is.”
Lewis has caught 17 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns this season, starting all five games at wide receiver. If he’s unavailable, the Sooners will likely turn to Javonnie Gibson to play an elevated role against the Longhorns.
Sexton has been out since suffering an injury during the season opener, but OU coach Brent Venables said Wednesday the Sooners expect him back at some point this season.
For Texas, running back CJ Baxter is listed as doubtful. Wideout Parker Livingstone and defensive back Malik Muhammed are listed as probable to play.
The Sooners and the Longhorns square off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
