Derrion Reid, Nijel Pack power Sooners to win over Alcorn State
Oklahoma found itself too close for comfort with Alcorn State on Sunday.
The Sooners led by just two points at halftime, and an Alcorn State basket cut their lead to eight with just over seven minutes to go. But Nijel Pack hit a 3-pointer on the next possession, powering a 9-0 run to retake control.
The result? The Sooners left Lloyd Noble Center with a 72-52 win over Alcorn State. With the win, the Sooners improve to 4-2 on the season.
Derrion Reid led the way for the Sooners offensively with 16 points, his most in an OU uniform. He also finished with a team-high eight rebounds.
Nijel Pack chipped in with a team-high 17 points, five 3-pointers and five assists, although he shot just 5/17 from the field. Xzayvier Brown added 11 points, and Mo Wague finished with six points, eight rebounds and three fouls.
Jadon Jones played in his second consecutive game for the Sooners, adding seven points and three rebounds off the bench.
The Sooners did well to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Nebraska last weekend, winning both of their games this week. However, they’ll face their next tough test on Friday when they play at Marquette for a national-televised game on NBC (1 p.m.)
