Top-65 wing Gage Mayfield picks Oklahoma

Porter Moser and the Sooners just landed their first pledge of the 2026 class.
Gage Mayfield, the No. 64 overall recruit and a rising name on the national scene, has committed to Oklahoma, per sources. The 6-foot-7 forward from Moundville, Alabama, made the call after an official visit to Norman last weekend.
Mayfield had already visited Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Florida State, and was set to see Michigan next. But after spending time in Norman, he shut things down.
One of the youngest players in the 2026 class, Mayfield’s just starting to tap into his upside. He turned heads this summer on the UAA circuit with Pro One, where he averaged 11.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.8 blocks per game. He was named The Circuit’s UAA Defensive MVP.
The appeal is obvious. Mayfield brings a strong, long frame with legit athletic pop. He fits the mold of a modern stretch four and draws some comparisons to Jalon Moore — though there’s a case to be made he’s ahead of where Moore was at this stage.
Offensively, Mayfield thrives in transition. He’s explosive when he gets downhill and finishes well above the rim. The shot is still coming along, but he’s shown some flashes off the catch and even off the dribble. It’s not a strength yet, but there’s a foundation to build on.
Defensively, he uses his length and timing to block shots at a high level for his position. His frame still has room to grow, but he’s already physical and makes an impact.
With Mayfield in the fold, Oklahoma continues to stack size and versatility on the wing. He’ll join a group that includes Derrion Reid, Jeff Nwankwo, Kuol Atak, Andreas Holst, and Alec Blair — and brings even more upside to a rotation that could be deep next year.
This is a strong opening statement for OU’s 2026 class. Moser and his staff are trending up.
