NORMAN — Oklahoma and Auburn are locked into a battle at Owen Field.

The Sooners and the Tigers are tied at 10-10 in the first half, and it’s been an ugly game. The two teams combined for 283 yards and six three-and-outs.

OU took an early 3-0 lead before Auburn responded with a field goal. The Sooners scored their only touchdown early in the second quarter before Auburn responded with an eight-play, 60-yard drive late in the half to tie it.

Here’s a look at the highlights and notes in the first half:

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Taylor Wein gets his first career sack on the opening series, forcing a three-and-out.

David Stone gets the sack and forces second-and-long. It was Stone’s first sack of the season.

John Mateer finds Isaiah Sategna for a 24-yard touchdown. The score came after a special teams miscue by Auburn set OU’s offense up inside the 15-yard line.

Sategna appeared to fake like he was being subbed out, and he was left uncovered.

NUMBER TO KNOW

15

That’s the number of penalties both teams combined for in the first half. The Sooners committed eight penalties for 84 yards.

KEY PLAYERS, OFFENSE

John Mateer: 8/16 passing, 104 yards, 1 TD

Isaiah Sategna: 3 receptions, 62 yards, 1 TD

KEY PLAYERS, DEFENSE

Jayden Jackson: 2.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss

Taylor Wein: 2 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL

David Stone: 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL

THE GOOD

— The Sooners’ defense sacked Arnold seven times in the first half. They had seven sacks on the season coming into the game.

Jayden Jackson leads the way with 2.5 sacks.

— The Tigers have found no room to run. The Sooners held them to -2 rushing yards in the first half on 20 carries.

The Tigers came into the game ranked 16th in rushing offense.

— Tate Sandell nailed a 49-yard field goal in the first half, continuing his positive momentum from the Temple game.

THE BAD

— Jackson Arnold had completed zero passes of 40-plus yards through his first three games. He completed two such passes against OU’s secondary in the first half.

— The secondary has struggled to contain Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton, who’ve combined for 10 receptions and 140 yards.

— The offense has been awful. The Sooners have 123 total yards of offense, averaging 4.0 yards per play. The running game has been particularly rough: 15 carries, 19 yards, 1.3 yards per carry.

The Sooners went three-and-out on three of their six possessions in the first half.

— The Sooners are again on the negative side of the turnover battle. Mateer fumbled on a handoff exchange midway through the second quarter just as it appeared the offense was finding a rhythm.

The Sooners have coughed the ball up seven times this season. The defense has yet to force a takeaway.
