Source: Jadon Jones to make his long awaited Oklahoma debut

Jadon Jones committed to Oklahoma on April 28, 2024, after helping guide Long Beach State — where he spent four seasons — to the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals on 37.7% shooting from behind the arc and was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Year.

He was projected to be a starter for Porter Moser last season and even started in their two secret scrimmages, but then suffered a back injury that sidelined him for the entire 2024-25 season.

This season, Jones was expected to be a key cog for Oklahoma off the bench, being described as one of the best shooters on the team, per sources. However, he suffered an abductor injury in early October that sidelined him for a month.

Sources tell OUInsider.com that the 3&D wing will be available to make his Oklahoma debut tomorrow night as the Sooners take on Oral Roberts inside Lloyd Noble Center. The timing of Jones’ return allows him to ramp up in two buy games before four straight high-major opponents.

It’s a significant boost for the Sooners to get Jones back in the rotation, as one thing they desperately need is more defense. Oklahoma has not started well on that end, and their adjusted defensive rating against Nebraska in the 105-99 loss was the worst of Moser’s tenure in Norman.

There’s a clear need for a hybrid wing/guard who can defend at a high level. Oklahoma also needs more depth in general, and having Jones available off the bench will help drastically. It also doesn’t hurt to add another off-ball guard who can shoot it from deep.

Jones is expected to have a significant role now that he has returned from injury.

When Oklahoma landed him in the portal, Moser said: “He is an elite defender with length and athleticism. He is a high-level shot maker from three, and I love that he helped guide Long Beach State to the NCAA Tournament this past March.”
