John Mateer is not about to offer any excuses for his iffy play since returning from thumb surgery. The Sooners' redshirt junior quarterback has been prodded time and again as to whether the thumb is limiting his effectiveness. It's a fair question given Mateer's significant drop in production since returning from the procedure; he's thrown just two touchdown passes and committed three turnovers in his last three starts, and Oklahoma is 1-2 in those games. But Mateer has continually reiterated that he does not feel limited in any capacity by his surgically repaired right thumb. “It’s definitely not my thumb," Mateer told reporters Monday night. "I’ll tell you that and I’ll stand by that."
