OU pitcher Sophia Bordi to enter the transfer portal

Oklahoma softball pitcher Sophia Bordi announced Friday that she’ll enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Bordi announced her decision on Twitter/X.

“I want to say thank you to the people close to me in Oklahoma and the sooner (sic) fans who have continued to support me and show me love throughout my journey thus far,” Bordi wrote. “I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the time I’ve spent at OU.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes things have to change in order to try and find that little kid in yourself who’s yearned for as long as you can remember, to be living in the blessings that you’re currently in. To find that spark again.”

Bordi’s announcement ends months of speculation regarding her future with the program.

The redshirt freshman reclassified to the class of 2025 and joined the Sooners prior to last season. There were high expectations for Bordi, who was a five-star pitcher and the No. 12 overall prospect. However, OU coach Patty Gasso announced last May that Bordi had left the team midway through the season. Gasso referred to it as a “personal situation.”

Bordi was never removed from the team’s roster and continued to express support for the Sooners on social media. But Bordi was not included on the active roster during fall ball, indicating she was still away from the team.

Without Bordi, the Sooners will enter next season with Sydney Berzon (LSU), Miali Guachino (Ole Miss), Audrey Lowry, Kierston Deal, Berkley Zache and Allyssa Parker as the team’s pitchers.
