The first “Go Boomer” tweet in months from OU softball coach Patty Gasso came on Wednesday morning, and it was a big one.

The Sooners landed a commitment from Goose Hutchens, she announced on social media. Hutchens is the No. 1 catcher in the 2027 class and the No. 2 player overall, per Rivals.

Hitchens is the first player added to the Sooners’ 2027 class. Programs were permitted to talk to 2027 recruits starting on Sept. 1.

Hitchens, who plays at Wagoner High School in Oklahoma, is a huge addition to the program. As a sophomore, she tied the Oklahoma high school record for most home runs with 23.

It’s a big start to the 2027 class for the Sooners, who also landed the No. 1 overall class in 2026. More additions should be expected in the coming weeks.

The Sooners finished the 2025 season with a 52-9 overall record, the SEC regular season championship and a appearance in the Women’s College World Series semifinals. The Sooners begin their fall slate on Oct. 3.
