R Mason Thomas, Grayson Miller earn SEC weekly honors

A pair of Sooners picked up SEC weekly honors on Monday following the 24-17 win against Auburn over the weekend.
OU defensive end R Mason Thomas was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, picking up his second SEC weekly honor and his first of the season. Grayson Miller was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, his first SEC honor.
The duo joins John Mateer and Tory Blaylock as the OU players who have picked up SEC weekly honors this season.
Thomas was pivotal in the win over Auburn, despite missing the first half due to a suspension for a targeting penalty against Temple. Thomas returned after halftime and logged a sack on his second snap of the game. On Auburn’s pivotal final drive, Thomas sacked Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold in the end zone for a safety, sealing the win.
Thomas finished with four tackles, two sacks and a tackle for loss.
Miller, who took over the starting duties at punter against Michigan in Week 2, was again fantastic against the Tigers. He averaged 54.4 yards per punt on five attempts, including a 66-yard boot in the second quarter that pinned Auburn inside the three-yard line. He’s averaging 51.0 yards per punt on 13 attempts this season.
The Sooners are 4-0 on the year and rose to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll. They have a bye this week before returning to action against Kent State next week (3 p.m. Oct. 4, ESPN+).
