Several Sooners earn All-SEC honors
Oklahoma placed 10 different players on the All-SEC teams on Tuesday.
Defensive end R Mason Thomas, place kicker Tate Sandell and punter Grayson Miller were named to the All-SEC First Team. Isaiah Sategna, Peyton Bowen, Febechi Nwaiwu, Ben Anderson and Taylor Wein earned second-team honors, while Eli Bowen and Jaren Kanak were named to the All-SEC Third Team.
The Sooners had the second-most players on the All-SEC teams. Georgia had the most with 11, and Texas finished third with eight. The Sooners had just four All-SEC players last season.
This is the second All-SEC honor for Thomas, who was named to the second team last season. Despite missing three games, Thomas finished with 23 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Anderson is the other OU player who has now earned multiple All-SEC honors.
Sandell — a Lou Groza Award finalist — has been sensational this season. He’s made 23 consecutive field goals, including all seven of his attempts beyond 50 yards. Miller has been huge for the Sooners, averaging 46.9 yards per punt on 54 attempts.
The All-SEC teams are voted on by the league’s head coaches. SEC individual award winners will be released Wednesday and the All-Freshman Team will be announced Thursday.
