Tory Blaylock named SEC Freshman of the Week
Tory Blaylock earned his first Southeastern Conference weekly award on Monday.
The Sooners’ running back was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after his standout performance in Saturday’s 42-3 win over Temple. The true freshman tallied 14 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns, averaging over seven yards per carry.
He scored his first touchdown of the season on a six-yard run in the second quarter, where he bulldozed over a Temple defender on his way to the end zone. His second score came in the third quarter, when he beat the Temple defense outside and ran untouched to the endzone.
Blaylock has yet to start a game for the Sooners, but he’s quickly established himself as the most consistent and explosive running back. He leads the backfield in carries (31), yards (166), touchdowns (3) and yards per carry (5.4).
Blaylock is the second Sooner to receiver an SEC weekly award, joining John Mateer, who was named Offensive Player of the Week after the Michigan win.
The Sooners will need him to keep that going this weekend. They open SEC play against No. 22-ranked Auburn at 2:30 p.m. (ABC), and both teams enter the weekend with a 3-0 record. The Tigers rank 10th nationally in rushing defense (67 yards per game), allowing just 2.03 yards per carry.
