Texas Tech hosted hundreds of prospects in June for camps, with a select few standouts earning scholarship offers. One of the prospects who made a positive impact and picked up an offer from the Red Raiders was Georgetown (TX) East View wide receiver Samuel Williams. The offer was Williams’ first, with many more to come for the speedster.

Williams, who is entering his sophomore season, recorded 19 receptions for 303 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in 2024 and is also a standout on the track, with a personal record time of 21.75 seconds in the 200 Meters which he set this spring.

“I think that I’m more of a deep threat and that my deep ball is more of my specialty. I think for a college program, if they need someone to go make a play, that’s what I do.

It feels really good being able to play football at the beginning of the school year then midseason get into track and also get ahead in that. Taking it all the way to regionals and having goals to get to state.”

Williams likes the environment, energy at Texas Tech camp

In June, Williams camped with the likes of Texas State in addition to Texas Tech. He says he really enjoyed the environment in Lubbock, as well as the structure and energy of the camp at Texas Tech.

“It was really just a great environment. I loved the campus and being in the facility, it just felt like a good area to be in. The coaching staff were all good people. They really helped me and I felt like leaving there that day I developed and became a better football player.

I think at Tech it was definitely more organized, the energy was higher and it was just a better environment in general.”

One coach who Williams connected with, and who would later give him the offer from Texas Tech, was wide receivers coach Juice Johnson.

“Yes, he was the one that offered me. We had like a little connection before that because he was already following me, kinda tracking my football before that so that definitely helped and it gave us a better connections to be evaluated at the camp. I think that really helped us get on the same page.”

Texas Tech’s history with passing offenses intriguing for Williams

Texas Tech has strong history of producing talented wide receivers, which is an ideal pitch for a rising prospect. In the last decade, eight former Red Raider wideouts have gone on to play in the NFL.

“Most definitely. I think with it being my first offer, I’m just very thankful for it. It makes me feel good that a more pass-heavy offense is interested in what I can do in the future.”

Current TTU commitment doing his part

If Georgetown East View is a familiar high school to Texas Tech fans, it’s likely because linebacker Tieson Ejiawoko is committed to the Red Raiders as part of the 2026 class. Ejiawoko was actually the first recruit to commit to Texas Tech in the class, doing so back on August 16th, 2024. Though he was offered by the likes of Texas, Baylor and Arizona State among others, Ejiawoko has remained solid with the Red Raiders.

“Yeah, we talked a little bit a few days ago, but he was definitely just excited to see that I got the offer and obviously believed in me. He told me a lot about how the school was very good, coaching staff is very supportive and they definitely believe in me.”
