Behren Morton, Texas Tech "Not done yet."

Behren Morton was as good as you could ask for against West Virginia in his limited time Saturday morning. The senior quarterback threw for 310 yards on 25 completions out of 32 attempts. He ultimately ended up connecting for 3 touchdowns on the day.

Hometown Kid

Behren Morton as a West Texas native has supported the Red Raiders since his childhood. He now has put the team he grew up rooting for into their biggest game in school history on Saturday against BYU.

“It’s really cool. It’s kind of emotional. Being a Lubbock kid and you know you’ve worked so hard to be in the position that you’re in now. It’s just really cool to look up and see what we’ve done this year. But we’re not done yet and I know the guys are fired up to get to Arlington next week.”

Offensive Redzone Performance

Outside of the one interception thrown by Jacob Rodriguez which ended a trip, Texas Tech was perfect in the redzone. Behren Morton was very pleased to see his team excel in this facet of the game, and looking forward to a rematch against BYU in Arlington.

“Yeah, it just gives us confidence. I think at the end of the day, Coach McGuire calls it the “No-Stone Zone”. So we don’t like to see Stone (Harrington) in that area, but I thought we executed well. Coach Leftwich had a great game plan. We knew what they were kind of going to do. So we just went out there and executed.”

Any Throwing Tips For Jacob?

Jacob Rodriguez in an effort to help his Heisman chances and pick up his second offensive touchdown of the day threw one over the middle which was intercepted by West Virginia. Behren Morton didn’t have any tips for the linebacker, but reflected on building up this team.

“No, I think he’s good on the throwing tips, but uh, you know, I hope that doesn’t hurt him.”

“He’s a phenomenal player, but even better person. I love being around Jacob and kind of glad that we’ve been here since day one together and kind of built this place up from the ground.”

Celebration + First Time In AT&T Stadium

Behren Morton spoke how special it is to accomplish this goal with this specific team, and how close the whole team is with each other.

“Yeah, I mean, this team is really special. I think on every single side of the ball, I feel like that’s my brother that I’m playing with. It’s crazy because they got here seven months ago and now I already feel like some of these guys are going to be in my wedding one day.”

“It’s all praise to Coach McGuire and what he’s trying to build at Texas Tech and we’re just trying to be a part of it.”

On what it means to lock in a spot in the Big 12 Championship and possibly the CFP with today’s win.

“Yeah, I mean it’s a cool milestone for sure but at the end of the day, I mean we still have more games on the table. So why not go get to 13, 14, or 15 games. So I mean it’s cool to see what we’ve done this year, but we’re not done yet.”

Is this a national championship caliber team?

“Yeah, 100%. I’ll stand on the table for that. I think confidence breeds in this team. I know what we have on this team and I know what we’re capable of. We just got to execute base plays and we have got the playmakers to go do it.”

This will mark the first time Morton has played in AT&T Stadium for the first time in his career.

“Yeah, it’s going to be awesome. I never made it to state in high school, so I never got the chance to play in AT&T Stadium. So I’m really looking forward to that. I know that the DFW area is full of Texas Tech Red Raiders. And so I’m really excited to see all the red next week in the stands.”
