Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton has been on a tear in recent weeks, showcasing both efficiency and explosiveness under center. Over his last three games, Morton has completed better than 63 percent of his passes while earning an offensive grade above 75 in each outing. His performance reached new heights last week when he carved up the Oregon State defense for 464 passing yards. It was a statement game that underscored his growing command of the Red Raiders’ offense.

Morton is looking to improve the Red Raiders record to 4-0. He spoke on what he the team is looking foward to this saturday.

“This is kind of what you dreamed of doing when you were a little kid, all this pressure and all the chips on the table, you know? I mean, it’s conference play against a top-25 team on the road, so it will be a battle. But we’ve got three games under our belt to give us some confidence, and the guys in the locker room are fired up. Especially going into that atmosphere, it’s going to be a good game.”

Composure on the biggest stage for Morton

Morton gave praise to the front runners of his team. He highlighted the offensive line and the powerful running back duo of Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams. He noted their balanced mindset, always looking ahead to the best way to start the next drive.

“After we come off the field from a touchdown, they are very level headed you know? They want to know what the what’s the first play of the next drive. Asking if it’s going to be more high tempo and what we like up front. It’s just so helpful having those guys being so engaged and locked in the game”

“This takes our offense to the next level where are running backs are so good up front with the run game but also in the pass pro, the communication part that they’ve done, they’ve done a tremendous job”

How Morton competes on the road

Morton and the Red Raiders are dialing up the intensity ahead of their next road matchup. They practiced inside the indoor facility with loud music to mirror the noise they’ll face on game day. The approach is aimed at sharpening communication. It also gives younger players their first taste of the pressure that comes with performing in a Big 12 environment.

“Coach (McGuire) already told us that we are going to be in the indoor facility all week bumping loud music, getting ready for a loud and rowdy crowd. The juices are flowing, anxiety is going on but it’s a lot of fun. For guys like Terrence Carter that you know probably hasn’t played in another stadium that you know has a group of 50,000 people rooting against him in it. So it’s gonna be a lot of fun for those guys to see, the atmosphere in the big 12 is different”

Why tempo is key for Texas Tech’s offense

The Red Raiders view tempo as the engine of its offense. Tech is leaning on quick starts, a physical run game and getting playmakers in space. By setting the tone early, the Red Raiders aim to keep pressure on opponents and maintain control throughout the game.

“Yeah going into Washington State last year, that game was awesome. The atmosphere was awesome, college football is loved all around there so you know it is going to be a really fun game.

“I think it’s going to be really physical and I am trying to tell our guys this week that you know, once we start fast and get on them, we just keep them underwater and I think that’s what the guys have done a great job of these past 3 weeks. We establish the run quick especially for this tough opponent and isolate our playmakers”
