Texas Tech lands local star wideout Chase Campbell

Texas Tech has added to their 2026 class in a big way, earning a commitment from Wolfforth (TX) Frenship wide receiver Chase Campbell. Campbell chose to stay home and become a Red Raider over a final group that included Big 12 foes Baylor and Kansas State.
All three programs have major ties to Campbell, which made this recruitment a very close call heading into decision day.
Campbell grew up in Waco, while Kansas State offensive coordinator Matt Wells has known the family and been recruiting Campbell for a long time. Texas Tech, of course, is just miles down the road from where Campbell plays his high school football at Frenship. In addition, Campbell’s mom Deedee Brown-Campbell also works for the athletic department as a Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator.
In the end, the allure of the Red Raiders was too much to pass up, and Texas Tech gets a key win to boost their 2026 class to second best in the Big 12 per Rivals.
Offensive class sees significant additions
Texas Tech has been hot on the offensive side of the ball, landing commitment from blue chip prospects in Ace Rowden, Felix Ojo and now Chase Campbell. Per Rivals, all three recruits are rated as top 205 overall players in the 2026 class.
Campbell is a unanimous four-star recruit amongst the three major recruiting services. Nobody is higher on Campbell than Rivals, as he checks in as the No. 57 prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 6 player in the state of Texas.
Make no mistake, this was a huge get for Texas Tech as Campbell becomes the program’s second highest rated commitment behind only the aforementioned Ojo.
Campbell has shown he’s worthy of the high honors, too. As a junior he recorded 81 receptions for 1,497 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground with 314 rushing yards and 6 more rushing scores.
Following the season he was named All-District 2-6A 1st Team Wide Receiver.
Reunited with former teammates
Texas Tech has had success at Frenship in recent years, which likely helped their chances with Campbell.
The Red Raiders signed two recruits from Frenship as part of the 2025 class, both of whom have a strong connection to the newest Red Raider pledge.
Wide receiver Leyton Stone, who was playing opposite Campbell the last several seasons, is entering his freshman season at Texas Tech.
Texas Tech also added quarterback Holden Phillips back in December. Phillips and Campbell have a good connection, and have been active in tagging each other in social media posts in recent months.
Earning a commitment from Campbell is a big deal
Texas Tech has flexed their muscles lately with some of the recent additions to the high school class as well as signing the No. 1 rated transfer portal class over the offseason.
It was extremely important to get Campbell, as well. It’s no secret that one of the biggest things missing from Texas Tech’s offense in the last few years was big play ability. Campbell has that in spades, and is the perfect fit for what the coaching staff was looking for.
A look at his talent, his fit at Texas Tech, his high national ranking, his offer list, all of it will show you just how crucial this commitment was for Joey McGuire and his staff.
They got the hard part done, and now they have to hang on to the blue chip prospect through signing day in December.
