Fun Facts about Texas Tech's newest WR commit Chase Campbell

Texas Tech has earned a commitment from Wolfforth (TX) Frenship HS four-star wide receiver Chase Campbell. The senior chose the Red Raiders over over Big 12 foes Baylor and Kansas State, and also held offers from Arkansas, North Carolina, Utah and several others.
Campbell is the 19th overall commit and second wide receiver for Joey McGuire in Texas Tech’s 2026 class.
Today, we look at some fun facts about the newest Red Raider.
Another big wide receiver commit
Tech has had a big offseason recruiting the class of 2026. They’ve already landed three-star wide receiver Imari Jehiel from Forney (TX) HS, and have now gotten one of the top-rated Lubbock prospects. Rivals ranks Campbell as the No. 57 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 8 wide receiver and the No. 6 best player in Texas.
It wasn’t too long ago when Tech announced the commitment of five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson, the highest-ranked recruit in Tech history. Hudson was the No. 20 overall prospect in the 2024 class, the No. 5 wide receiver and the No. 4 best player in Texas according to On3 rankings.
From what I can find, the highest-ranked wide receiver commit before Hudson was Michael Crabtree. Crabtree was a four-star commit and the No. 240 overall prospect in the class of 2006, the No. 16 wide receiver and No. 22 best player in Texas according to Rivals.
Tech has had several wide receivers that have made an impact on the program such as Wes Welker, Jakeem Grant, Lloyd Hill, and several more. Campbell has the opportunity to be a Texas Tech legend and follow in their footsteps.
Recruiting local talent
Tech has not shied away from recruiting directly from Lubbock to keep local talent home. Campbell now joins two more Lubbock wide receivers in Michael Dever and Leyton Stone, who was Campbell’s teammate at Frenship HS. He also joins his former high school quarterback Holden Phillips.
Other current Lubbock players for McGuire include John Curry, Holton Hendrix, and Marcus Ramon-Edwards.
McGuire has expressed how important it is to recruit West Texas talent, and have landed solid players from the region when doing so.
Other Campbell’s in Tech history
According to Texas Tech’s 2024 media guide, this is the first Chase to play for Texas Tech. However, this isn’t the first Campbell.
Cody Campbell, Tech booster and Board of Regents Chairmen, was an offensive lineman for Texas Tech from 2001-04. He’s been one of the biggest names in college football this offseason and helped organize and fund Tech’s roster movement.
Cody’s father, Cliff Campbell, was also a member of the Red Raider football team in 1974. Other Campbell’s include Chris Campbell, Doug Campbell, and Richard Campbell.
The future for Campbell
By the time Campbell gets on campus, Coy Eakin will be entering his senior year, and T.J. West, Kelby Valsin, and Micah Hudson will all be entering their junior season. With Caleb Douglas, Reggie Virgil, and Roy Alexander most likely entering the NFL Draft, Campbell will have a great opportunity to make an immediate impact for McGuire and the Red Raiders.
