John Curry reflects career and the Lubbock energy ahead of Saturday

During Tuesday’s weekly presser, Texas Tech linebacker/safety John Curry talked about his electric performance against Kansas State where he finished with 62 total snaps and recorded six tackles, two stops and one fumble recovery that he took in for his first touchdown of the season.
Gameday for the Red Raider
Curry reflected on the last time College Gameday was in Lubbock in 2008. The sideline catch by Michael Crabtree that had every fan on their feet screaming. Now he gets to live and play in that moment.
“It’s just so awesome, like since I was a little kid, it was like the only time we have had it and it was that Texas game in 2008 and I was three at the time. I wanted to be a part of that team that brought it back and be a part of the team that brought big plays every weekend.”
Last year compared to this year for John Curry
The difference a year makes for the Red Raiders is unthinkable. Going from a mid-tier Big 12 team winning 8 games to now competing on the highest stage of college football as a top 10 team in the nation, Curry reflected on that and had this to say.
“I think it’s so cool, because last year I got to play a lot and I was on special teams and defense and stuff like that but this year it’s different. I really feel like I am a part of this team and that I’m making a difference in every single game I play.”

Why the fans are the life of this Red Raider team
Curry, who is from Lubbock and went to Coronado High School, got to take in all the sights of what the student body has been doing this past week, setting up tents and camping out for the highly-anticipated matchup on Saturday against No. 8 BYU.
“I think seeing the commitment of the fans is one of the coolest things I have experienced here, you know? I’ve always seen it for basketball games, like people camping out and stuff, but I always wondered if we would ever have a big enough game like that.
It’s a big game and it’s just awesome to see how much our students and fans care about this team to the point that they literally are camping out a week before the game even starts.”
John Curry’s plan for this key matchup
When asked about how the Red Raiders plan to take on BYU’s explosive offense, Curry stayed true to the Red Raider identity.
“They do a lot of things really well, they can run the ball if they need to and they can throw the ball if they need to. So for us, we just need to do our best job every single play. If we do our our job and we give it our best every single play we know that not many people in the country can mess with us.”
