Over the weekend, Texas Tech baseball picked up a commitment from Fort Scott Community College right handed pitcher Bryce Suiter.

Listed at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, Suiter will arrive in Lubbock with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

As a freshman at Fort Scott, Suiter appeared in 19 games and pitched a total of 23.2 innings, finishing with a season ERA of 3.42 and a WHIP of 1.44.

He struck out 27 batters in those 23.2 innings, good for a K/9 of 10.27. Where he’ll have to improve moving forward is his walk rate, as he gave out 15 free passes on the season.

“I hope to be a huge piece in the success of this team next year, on the field and off. I am a competitor and I love nothing more than competing out on the mound, but I know that it starts in the way I treat my teammates and how I handle myself off the field in a way that glorifies God. Personally, my end goal is to become a Major League Baseball player. With the help of the coaching staff, Tech gives me the best opportunity to fulfill my dream. At the end of the day, I want to push myself daily to be the best teammate, player, friend, and person that I can be for everyone I come in contact with. I thank God for this amazing opportunity to continue my dreams.”

Suiter enjoys recruitment process, visit to TTU

With Tech looking for more pitching this summer, assistant coach J-Bob Thomas got word of Suiter’s talents and after watching him pitch a couple times saw all he needed to see to turn up the pursuit.

Suiter also got to take a visit to Texas Tech prior to his commitment, and came away impressed by everything he had to see in Lubbock.

“My recruiting process with Tech started early this summer. I spent the summer at home working every day with my pitching coach, Tim Arnold, that I have had since my sophomore year of high school. I got connected with Tech through a close friend of his, and Coach Thomas soon flew down to watch me pitch. We had some really good conversations and he ended up flying down one more time to watch me pitch again. That spoke volumes to me and showed that he really cared about me and wanted me to be a Red Raider.

I was able to visit Texas Tech before I committed. I was blown away by the facilities, the hospitality, and the care that Tech shows their athletes. I was able to see what everyday life looks like specifically for the baseball team and I was incredibly impressed by everything I saw. The campus is beautiful and I am super excited to get down there.”

Tech’s new pitching coaches get their guy

Texas Tech made waves in the coaching department this offseason, hiring former Colorado Rockies pitching coach Steve Foster to the same position in Lubbock.

Tim Tadlock’s staff was bolstered even more last week with the announcement of Steve Merriman to be Texas Tech’s new Director of Pitching Development.

Both Foster and Merriman bring over several years of MLB experience and have a history of working together from 2019-21 in Colorado.

“The coaching staff is amazing. Coach Tadlock and the rest of the staff are all coaches with incredible experience and knowledge that you will not find anywhere else. I am super excited to start working with Coach Foster, who I got to meet and connect with, and Coach Merriman who will be there when I get there. I have never heard of a coaching dynamic as strong as this new group at Tech. The coaches are genuinely great human beings who made a great first impression on me.”
