Macy Blackburn Named to Mac Hermann Award Midseason Watch List
Texas Tech soccer senior captain Macy Blackburn named to the Mac Hermann Award midseason watch list on Tuesday. Blackburn is a two-time All-American, a 2024 Mac Hermann semi-finalist and earned a No. 3 overall player ranking by Top Drawer prior to the start of the 2025 season.
“We’re just proud of Macy,” said Texas Tech head coach Tom Stone earlier this season about his All-American. “She’s a great leader, committed when she was in the 8th grade. An ambassador for this program and we’re just happy for her. She’s a very humble person, very confident on the field but off the field very humble.”
Blackburn set the school record for career assists last season when she passed Taylor Lytle on September 22, 2025 in the team’s 2-0 win over the ranked Cowgirls. She has since added 14 more, including nine this season, to push out her all-time lead to 42 over Lytle’s career 27.
The nine assists are second in the entire nation for all players and first for a defender. The reigning Big 12 Defender of the Year currently leads the conference in assists individually and is a part of a league leading four conference shutouts in five games played. She’s also has a career high three goals in 2025, helping the Red Raiders to a 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 conference record. All of which currently has Tech sitting in first place in the Big 12 and a No. 9 Top Drawer Top 25 rankings.
What is the Hermann Trophy?
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. It is named in honor of the late Robert Hermann, the legendary St. Louis, Mo., businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, the first pro soccer league in the United States which became the North American Soccer League. He was inducted in the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.
The 2025 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee from a list of returning 2024 All-Americans and First Team All-Region players. A total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 2 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced January 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
