The matchup on Saturday, with the undefeated BYU Cougars coming to town for an 11 am kickoff, will be one of the most challenging games yet for Texas Tech. With games like this, where a lot is on the line, it’s essential to make sure the little things go right. For this weekend, special teams coordinator Kenny Perry said making those little mistakes could cost them, and with how good BYU is, the Cougars will take advantage.

“It’s probably the best special teams we’ll play like all around they’re really good. They do a good job. They play hard. They’re well coached. Got a good kicker, you know, punter’s about like Jack (Burgess), got a good kick off return team, they cover, you know, it’s going to be, it’s going to be a great matchup,” Perry told the media on Tuesday. “You like having Coy (Eakin) back there, because he’s a bigger kid, he’s in the game, but, you know, we can’t, we can’t turn those balls over. I mean, like I said this game right here, that that is going to come back and haunt you… those things are stuff that you can’t do in big games.”

Stone Harrington is “the guy”

Throughout the season, Stone Harrington and Upton Bellenfant have been rotating to kick extra points and field goals. After nine games, Perry has said that Harrington is their guy and they will stick with him from now on.

“Stone, he’s the guy. I mean, he’s who we’re going with. You know, it’s happening every year, like that kind of works itself out,” Perry said. “He’s deserved it man. From where he started as a freshman, to where he’s at now, my hat’s off to him.”

Perry loves the environment

This is the first time College Gameday has been to Lubbock since 2008. With a top-10 matchup this week, there is a lot of national attention surrounding this game. Perry has said, like always, he’s worried about their team and how they need to win. They will do what they need to do to get ready, but can’t wait for the engagement on campus before and during the game.

“It’s unbelievable. I mean, that’s obviously, that’s what college is all about. I mean, this school just to takes it to another level, like our fans, you know. And you know that first night I was in shock,” Perry said. “I love seeing that. That’s what college athletics is supposed to be.”
