Recruitment summary

Asharri Charles picked up his first offer over 30 months ago, from Florida State. Since then he has amassed the offers from every conference in the country. In June, he took official visits to Florida, Missouri, Louisville, Kentucky and Miami. Following all five trips, he made his commitment on June 22nd to the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami is located a little over 200 miles from Venice HS, and Charles decided to stay close to home to play his college ball.

How Texas Tech fits in

Curiously, just a couple weeks after announcing to Miami, Charles posted an offer from Texas Tech on his Twitter page.

The offer was quote tweeted by five-star Texas Tech offensive tackle commitment Felix Ojo which raises some eyebrows. The two have some sort of connection, and Ojo’s status carries a lot of weight in recruiting circles.

You can never have enough pass rushers and while Texas Tech’s class is mostly full at 19 commits, they would make an exception for a nationally ranked prospect as Charles is.

Does Charles end up taking an official visit to Lubbock at some point this season? I think it’s fair to speculate for that to be a decent possibility.

In the days of NIL, no school willing to make a strong enough offer can be discounted. That said, pulling a South Florida kid from Miami is not going to be a cakewalk. Still, prospects have unlimited official visits to take, and maybe Charles wants to go experience a gameday and the lovely West Texas sun at some point this fall.

Texas Tech has one EDGE committed in the class of 2026 in Houston (TX) Westfield three-star product Demarcus Marks. They tried to land Jamarion Carlton and were in his final group before he opted on Baylor. They would love to add Charles to the class, and he’s a prospect worth monitoring in the months ahead.
