This isn’t really about our guy Ashton, but I’ve got to say, I love the scoreboard on the film. Always hated not knowing situation when I would watch film.

First clip, and I’m in. He waits just a beat for the blocking to set up, then hits the gap. That little bit of patience makes a difference.

Nine-man boxes? No problem. He still finds space. Are all the defenders wearing concrete shoes? It’s like they aren’t even moving.

A few of them probably decided playing the clarinet was more their thing after trying to tackle him, did not look fun for them.

What really jumps out is how well he reads blocks, especially for a high school kid. He’s not just leaning on athleticism, he’s seeing the field, making smart cuts, using angles. That’s the kind of thing that’ll help when the competition levels out and some of those easy cutbacks aren’t there anymore.

Good lord he eats up turf in a hurry, just moves so efficiently. Didn’t see him catch a lot of passes, but the way he handled some of those pitches shows he’s got good hands. Then, right on cue, he pulls a Willie Mays over-the-shoulder touchdown catch out of nowhere.

Like with Donovan Webb, this guy’s just a football player. Doesn’t matter the scheme—he’s going to find a way to contribute.
