Terrance Carter Jr aiming for full strength before WVU

Texas Tech‘s Terrance Carter Jr has been one of the most impactful players from the #1 transfer portal class the Red Raiders brought in this past spring. We were able to catch up with the junior tight end at his media availability on Tuesday.
Bye week prep for WVU and the postseason
Texas Tech hasn’t been on a bye since the week of September 27th following the win in Salt Lake City. The Red Raiders have had 7-straight games since that date. Carter gave some insight into what they’ll dive into this week, preparing for WVU next week and the postseason.
“Really, you know, just walking through and getting our bodies right in the training room every day. Just taking time off to heal, be ready to get back to 100%.”
“I’ll go get my body taken care of on Saturday. Go get me a massage. Not the biggest football watcher, unless it’s film, but might watch the highlights after the game.”
“It’s the same thing we have every week, go 1-0 so we’re not going to take any breaks. We’re not going to be lazy coming back into the league. We’re going to attack the same one we attack”
College Football Playoff rankings reveal
On Tuesday night in a shortened segment, the College Football Playoff rankings were revealed with Texas Tech slotted at #5 behind two-time CFP national champion Georgia. Although on a bye week, Terrance Carter and Co are still focusing on what they need to improve on.
“Not really, but just seeing our names in there, it’s pretty cool. I’ve never been part of something like this. It definitely shows you that we’ve been building something special since December, and January, we’re just here to still prove that.”
Reggie Virgil
In the Red Raiders last appearance versus UCF, Reggie Virgil cashed in on a career-high three total touchdowns against the Knights. The WR was able to take a jet sweep around the corner for six early in the game Saturday.
“I ain’t going to lie, we practice it every week, so it was nothing new. I mean, he’s scored on it in practice every time we’ve ran it. We finally got it off the call sheet and it was no surprise that he was going to score. I mean, the kid runs like a 4.2.”
Continuing to improve
In the preseason Carter said he wanted to be known as a blocking and catching tight end. He believes he still hasn’t reached his full potential, but Coach Cochran and the staff are getting him and his teammates there.
“Definitely not. I still have parts of my game that I’m still adding. The season isn’t over. I’m still grinding to get after it and can’t wait to see where it gets me.”
“It’s everybody. Like the standard is the standard. He’s not going to tell me, “Hey, you need to work on run game” and tell JC (Johncarlos Miller), “Hey, you need to work on this.”. No, he’s going to tell everybody that we all need to work on this.”
“Like if one person has outside hands, we’re all coming back the next day and we’re working inside hands every practice. So, it’s an everybody thing. It’s not just one person.”
Jones AT&T Stadium
Prior to his arrival at Texas Tech, Terrance Carter Jr played at Louisiana Lafayette with a home-crowd capacity of 30,000. So it was quite the difference when Carter played his first game at The Jones.
“Every home game we’ve had so far, it’s crazy to me. I never played in front of 60,000 people, so every time I go out there for a home game, I’m just starstruck.”
“There’s a lot of eyes on you, but that just gives you opportunity to go out there and do the thing you love best. Just show people who you are, what you came from.”
