Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez wins 2025 Lombardi Award
Texas Tech senior linebacker Jacob Rodriguez has added to his trophy case again this season, his latest honor being the Lombardi Award.
Rodriguez won the award over the other finalists which included:
- Texas A&M DE Cashius Howell
- Alabama OL Kadyn Proctor
- Texas Tech LB David Bailey
“For more than 50 years, the Lombardi Award™ has honored the nation’s top college linemen while fueling the fight against cancer. Established by the Rotary Club of Houston in 1970, just weeks after Coach Vince Lombardi’s passing, the award celebrates athletes who exemplify his legacy of character, discipline, and excellence.”
Rodriguez, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, previously won the Butkus Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy earlier this month.
The player known by fans as “J-Rod” has recorded 117 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, six passes defended, two fumble recoveries and seven forced fumbles in 2025. The seven forced fumbles leads the all FBS players.
Rodriguez will look to continue showcasing his talents to the college football world in the College Football Playoff when the Red Raiders take on the winner of the Oregon vs James Madison first round game. The game is scheduled for Thursday, January 1st with kickoff set for 11:00 a.m. CT.
