Texas Tech defensive lineman Lee Hunter met with the media ahead of Week 2 against Kent State. He called his first game in scarlet and black a special moment. Playing inside Jones AT&T Stadium felt different with the crowd behind him instead of against him. Hunter praised the energy of the fans, the unique atmosphere, and the way the defense played as one. He believes that debut set the tone for what this group can become moving forward.

Hunter thrives in elite defensive front

Lee Hunter felt right at home in his first game as a Red Raider. Surrounded by elite defenders, he called the pass rush “a race to the corner,” with everyone locked in on the quarterback. He pointed to sharp communication and teamwork, saying the debut was both “amazing” and “fun” as the defense set the tone early.

Mentorship and the future of the Red Raiders

Hunter also spoke about the younger talent in the defensive line room. He highlighted names like Jayden Cofield and Keyshawn Williams, praising their growth and potential. “They’re gonna be great,” Hunter said, pointing to film study, practice habits, and consistent effort as signs that the future of Texas Tech’s defense is in good hands.

Experiencing the Jones from the other side

One of the most striking adjustments for Hunter came from the atmosphere inside Jones AT&T Stadium. Previously, he had only faced the Red Raider crowd as an opponent. Now, he’s embraced by it. “It’s amazing seeing all the fans out there to support us,” Hunter explained. “It’s a little different when the tortillas are celebrating you instead of being thrown against you.”

Hunter speaks on prep work for Kent State

With Week 1 behind them, the focus quickly shifted to Kent State. Hunter noted that the defense has already studied film and sees a strong opponent. “They’ve got two good quarterbacks, a solid O-line, and a good culture,” he said. While he refused to call anything a “concern,” Hunter acknowledged the Golden Flashes’ inside-zone schemes and stressed the importance of executing Tech’s game plan.

Successful pass rush according to Hunter

Hunter explained that a successful snap comes down to collapsing the pocket, winning one-on-ones, and creating pressure even against double teams. “If it’s me and two people and I’m still impacting the play, that’s success,” he said. The mindset reflects the relentless edge of Texas Tech’s defensive front.
