After Texas Tech handed West Virginia the worst loss in program history since the 1800’s to close out the regular season 11-1, the Red Raiders dominance impressed the committee enough to move into the top four. Their new No. 4 spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday is the highest in school history, up one spot from No. 5 where they have been the last two weeks.

Per the current projected bracket, Tech would get the winner of No. 5 Oregon, and the 5th highest ranked conference champion TBD, in the quarterfinals of the playoffs after the Red Raiders enjoy a first round bye. This game will be played Dec 31 or Jan 1 at one of four locations: Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl.

Texas Tech has one more game on the horizon, before taking part in their first CFP they will take part in their first Big 12 Championship Game versus No. 11 BYU December 6, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will be a rematch of the Red Raiders 29-7 win over BYU earlier this season.

Kickoff scheduled for 11:00 AM on ABC.
