Texas Tech men’s basketball scored a major recruiting win with the commitment of Dakari Spear, a four-star shooting guard in the 2026 class. The 6-foot-4 standout from Dallas chose the Red Raiders over Syracuse, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech among others. On the EYBL circuit with Drive Nation, Spear averaged 13.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He also shot 41 percent from the field, proving he could perform against top national competition.
“I describe myself as a three level scorer who cab create for not only myself but my teammates as well. I’m also big on competing on the defensive side, so just trying to be the best 2-way player I can be. Tech fans should expect a dawg who is ready to come in and make an immediate impact!”

At 6-foot-4, Spear can play multiple positions across the backcourt. His length and athleticism allow him to defend, create shots, and finish at the rim.
“I’m a 6’4–6’5 combo guard so I can get to my spots and score at each level. Whether it’s catch-and-shoot, mid-range shooting, over my defenders or getting downhill,” Spear explained.
Texas Tech coaches value his ability to stretch defenses with a strong mid-range game and reliable outside shot. His versatility makes him a natural fit for Grant McCasland’s system.

“My connection with Buff and the staff is close for sure. They made me feel like I was a part of the team on my visit and I was able to really get a glimpse of student athlete life at Tech.”
