Texas Tech’s 45–14 win over Oregon State was another dominant, over before it got to the second half performance. The Red Raiders have now outscored their opponents a ridiculous 123-0 in the first half this season after holding a 28-0 lead at half over the Beavers on Saturday.

But this game did at least offer a bit of adversity or at least a different look for the offense noted Behren Morton, who tossed four touchdowns alongside his first interception of the season.

“It was good to see pressed man. We haven’t got to see that this year. Letting our outside receivers work and let them be playmakers.”

Morton was also quick to give credit to his offensive line that, while Morton experienced some pressure at times, gave him all the time he wanted to make big plays down the field for much of the game.

“They’re picking up IDs out there, and you hear them talking, and I haven’t heard that in a couple of years,” explained Morton. “If I have time, it’s going to be bad for the defense because we’ve got way too many playmakers.”

Even a red-zone interception he described as “getting greedy,” couldn’t slow Morton or the offense down for long. He quickly bounced back and in total helped guide Tech on six scoring drives, spreading the ball to a number of those aforementioned playmakers.

One of the loudest moments at Jones AT&T came when wideout Caleb Douglas hauled in his first touchdown of the season on a 61-yard bomb from Morton.

“As soon as I threw it, we were in the end zone celebrating. I said, oh, five’s back,” Morton told media postgame with a grin.

Another came from tight end Terrence Carter who finished the game with 102 yards off six catches and a touchdown. The 6-2, 245 poind tight end now has three touchdowns on the season.

“He’s a freak,” Morton said when asked what it’s like to have a weapon like Carter at his disposal. “I have not ever seen a tight end move as smoothly and as fast as he can. We can widen him out just like we’re in 10 personnel and him in the slot… it’s not just he’s a tight end, let’s put the ball up high. Like he can run real routes.”

Williams Shows Off Pass Catching Ability

Running back J’Koby Williams delivered his own spark, showing elite patience and burst to score the teams third touchdown of the game on a 30-yard screen pass in the second quarter.

“I seen Ponton in front of me, so I had to slow down, set the blockers up, and just finished it from there,” he said.

Modest answer but you won’t see better showcase of why slow is fast in setting up his blocks from the true sophomore.

“He came out of the backfield, run, pass, it doesn’t matter,” said Morton talking about how Williams pairs with Cam Dickey in the backfield. “He [J’Koby] was very explosive out of the backfield with the routes, but running the ball too, so elusive. He’s quick in the holes, makes good decisions, great in pass bro. So, it’s good to have two young backs that can feed off each other. When one has a big drive, the next one’s going to come in. It’s a good one-two punch for sure.”

Eyes Forward to Conference Play

As good as this game and the entirety of Texas Tech’s 3-0 non-conference has gone, both Morton and Williams emphasized that it was only a glimpse of what will be required in the weeks to come. They know the challenge that awaits them next week in Utah and the rest of conference play.

“We’ve done a good job in the last three games but now the real football starts,” Morton said. “This is our time to play the brand of football we want to.”

Texas Tech heads into conference play undefeated for the first time in the McGuire era, behind one of the statistically most dominant teams in the country. Next up they are treated to one of the toughest environments in college football as the team travels to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah for a Top 25 matchup with the Utah Utes.
