Texas Tech softball earned a couple of commitments this week including four-star, No. 13 overall ranked player in the Class of 2027, per Softball America, Hollynn Gentry. The Red Raiders also picked up three-star utility Skylar Knight earlier in the week.

Gentry is the third best catcher in the country according to Softball America out of Ganesha High School in Fontana, California. As far back as Softball America rankings go, Gentry is the highest rated recruit per their rankings in Texas Tech history.

A star for one of the best travel ball organizations in softball Athletics-Mercado, Gentry made a name for herself on the recruiting circuit and held interest from Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas and UCLA amongst other programs before choosing Texas Tech. Perfect Game Softball evaluators had this to say about her as both a player and leader.

Hollynn is a dynamic catcher with a fast transfer and great arm strength. She is athletic, has a solid glove, and is agile behind the plate. Offensively she is a strong right-handed hitter with an athletic stance and powerful swing. She has solid homerun power and can drive the ball to any part of the field. She’s a true leader on the team and just flat out competes.

Skylar Knight, OF/3B | Trinity, Texas

Knight is a three-star prospect out of Trinity, Texas that plays for the Hotshots travel ball organization. Per LineDriveMedia, Knight is an aggressive player with ELITE athleticism. She has been recorded with a 2.38 home to first time and has the ability to hit for power as well into the gaps. Knight committed to Texas Tech earlier this week via her instagram.
