Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady Named Brand Ambassador for Venmo's New Partnership with Big 12 Conference

Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady announced as one of three Big 12 Conference athletes to represent Venmo and their specialty school branded Debit cards. She joins Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and TCU’s Olivia Miles as the brand’s Big 12 ambassadors.
“I take pride in helping pave the way for the next generation of female athletes,” said Canady. “This partnership with Venmo will help create real financial empowerment for athletes, and I’m excited to help them break new ground as part of it. I already use Venmo all the time, and now with the Texas Tech Venmo Debit Card, it will be easier than ever to put my NIL earnings to work in ways that matter to me and support Red Raider Nation at the same time.”

Paypal Holdings Inc. recently announced a multi-year agreements with the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences that will modernize the distribution of institutional payments from universities to student-athletes in a new revenue-sharing model. Paypal acquired Venmo in a 2013 purchase.
“We’re proud to help lead this transformation in college athletics by making it easier and faster for student-athletes to receive funds and continue to bring trusted and innovative commerce solutions to the heart of campus life,” said Alex Chriss, President and CEO, PayPal. “From receiving institutional payments to making everyday purchases, we’re helping student-athletes, families, and schools engage in new ways that are modern, secure, and built for the future.”
The new co-branded Venmo Debit Cards are an extension of this partnership and will enable students, alumni, and fans from participating schools to celebrate their school pride and unlock enhanced rewards and exclusive access.

Canady has been a trailblazer for college softball and women’s sports as a whole. To date she has multiple major brand deals including Easton, Rawlings and adidas Team Mahomes – all in conjunction with her historic NIL Deal through the Matador Club announced upon her transfer to Texas Tech last July. She is also an ambassador for the future of the game and will speak at the Empowering Girls For Life conference for the second year in a row this August.
Per the release, the Big 12 Conference and school-branded Venmo Debit Cards are expected to be available for sign-up and virtual card access on August 11th, with physical cards shipping in September.
